History
The Network started in 2023 after research that was conducted by the Centre for Research in Religious Life and Apostolate—CERRA-Africa—on “Hospitality and Care for the elderly sisters in Uganda.” The survey was carried out in 70 Religious Institute in Uganda. Out of these, the Superiors General selected twenty Institutes as pilot beneficiaries of the Network.
The Network is registered as an NGO under the name SISTER-LED ELDERLY CARE NETWORK (SLECN) LTD.
Our Objectives
To promote a medium for women Religious Institutes to share needs of their Elderly and Infirm members
To ensure quality services and safety of the Elderly and Infirm members
To promote respect for dignity and privacy of the Elderly members
To provide appropriate trained and skilled attendants for the Elderly
To advocate for public policies that promotes wellness of the Elderly
Our Membership
The network is made up of Roman Catholic Religious Women Institutes registered under the Association of Religious in Uganda (ARU). These members/institutes are found in the Four Ecclesiastical Provinces formed under the Catholic dioceses in the country. i.e., Kampala Archdiocese, Mbarara Archdiocese, Gulu Archdiocese, and Tororo Archdiocese.
